Women for Women : Women In Government Panel: April-May
|
I will be hosting a panel with preeminent women of both or neither party who have previously been or are involved in the world of government levels. This panel will inspire girls to become more involved in the political world, seeing themselves in positions of power which are often occupied by white men. This will inspire women to become more involved in the political world, making the change we need to see in the world at the local, state, and federal levels. I will ask each woman questions on how their political career began, what they were doing to advocate for the needs of others as teenagers and young adults, and about their paths to success and often non-traditional ways in which they achieved it. I will also ask them for recommendations concerning how teenagers can get involved in the political process. This panel will serve to inspire young women from St. Paul's School for Girls and other local schools to enter the political arena and advocate for what they believe in when they do not see it happening within their own communities.
This panel will take place via zoom and during the school day for grades 5-12. It is planned for April or May. Delegate Brooke Lierman, Delegate Susan Krebs, Judge Maria L. Oesterreicher and Councilwoman Odette Ramos have committed to participating. |
Future Goals
1. We aim to organize a virtual conference of local high school and college students, educating them on how to vote and how to become civically engaged. Through this conference, we aim to educate students on how to promote voting in their school communities.
2. We aim to host a series of civic engagement workshops for anyone to join, showing people how they can become involved in their local governments and advocate for change. We hope to expose students to local groups they can become involved in and inspire them to take action.
3. We aim to advocate for legislation easing the accessibility of voting in Maryland and in the federal government.
3. We hope to work with Hopkins Votes and the League of Women voters to promote the LWVMD Voter guide, educate students on how to vote, promote the addition of polling centers to college campuses, and register voters.
